Food ministries have been central to LoveJoy United’s mission since our founding. Two Mondays per month, Brenda Donohoo and and others give food to our neighbors who are hungry and in need. This food is purchased by church or through donations. But last week, we were in for special surprise from a neighbor.
A family in the Wood River community reached out to the church wishing to supply “groceries for a week” to a family in need. They delivered a generous amount of groceries, but that’s not all they brought. They also included the recipes and ingredients to bake their family’s favorite sweets. We were able to see that food off to a family that could use it this Christmas. While both families will remain anonymous to one another and to us, there’s a sense that they shared Christmas together. And by the grace of God, our church was the meeting place of the two.
What a beautiful and personal way to brighten up the holidays for a family in need. God is so good. And we have some mighty good neighbors.
Brenda Donohoo, who coordinates the food pantry and organized this effort, shared, “I was blessed on Monday to be part of our wonderful mission work and witness such a caring and loving congregation…we are truly blessed with good Samaritans at our church and in our community.”
Indeed we are!
